In one of the online groups I am a part of, I answered a question. Another member asked why I gave that answer. I explained my thought, and she was okay with it. But my response generated a life of it’s own. People in the group have been going back and forth about it amongst each other for three days. But I was only part of it on day one. Admins and moderators have stepped in and deleted comments which have been deemed harassing. If these people were in a room altogether, they would fist fighting. It’s unnerving how a view I stated took on a life of it’s own, it is being debated, and how ugly some of the commenters are with one another. And I am not part of the conversation anymore! My answer was not meant to start a revolution or ignite any ill feelings. But people with their egos and opinions were ready to weigh in on the subject, and some came to stir the pot. It amazes me how when you interact with someone online you may view what you think as justified, and be alright with what you know. But another individual you encounter may be looking to prove they are right, show off their knowledge, or hoping to find an argument to be as disagreeable as possible.
