A faded and broken promise

I was reminded this morning of a big promise someone once made me. And this was not something I asked for. The person offered it to me. But when it came time for them to come through, I got a sporadic series of texts where they were very evasive. I realized they weren’t going to keep their promise. I was let down, but had to come up with another plan. And I did. I let them know someone else would be helping me out and I got a sarcastic message in return. But that was the end of it. I haven’t contacted them, or heard from them since.

What would make someone promise something they couldn’t come through on? I have come up with several possible reasons.

  1. To be a hero to me.
  2. Their ego.
  3. To appear to others they are a hero.
  4. Overall, for attention.

If you look at this person’ social media page, you will see they are very outgoing and well liked. And I am not implying those things aren’t true. On the surface, yes. They have a lot of good qualities. But what I have come away with is some people are really great at saying, “I will be there for you.” However if they can’t come through on their promise they don’t know how to say and are probably afraid to hear themselves say, “I won’t be able to do this for you.”
