I was talking with a friend who recently left a social club. He had been a member for a long time but a new leader had been elected and made a lot of changes. At first he tried to go along with it, but when he spoke up and disagreed, he was eventually ousted. I listened and told him I understood his frustration. And I let him know I have been in similar situations. But the thing I have come to realize is you have to recognize when it is time to go. You may have made many friends, devoted a lot of time and energy, and contributed good ideas. But if something doesn’t suit you anymore, move on. It can be difficult at first because it was part of you and it was how you were identified. However you can look at the end of one thing as a chapter closing and it is the opportunity to start something new. You might have also been neglecting your own needs and interests because you felt this “social club” needed you.
The end of something can be painful and hard to let go of. But when one journey comes to a stop it doesn’t necessarily mean you are finished. You can always go down another path and create a new adventure.
