I saw pieces of the news story about Gwyneth Paltrow’s court case. She claimed that after the man who was skiing crashed into her, she was sore and went for a massage. I understand it is a resort and a lot of high profile people probably go there. The type of people who spend a lot of money and aren’t used to hearing the word NO. But technically, the Massage Therapist should have recommended she be evaluated by a doctor first. It is possible she could have suffered bruising, torn muscles, or possibly fractured ribs or other bones. And a Massage Therapist putting their hands on her and applying pressure could have injured her further. I hope my Massage Therapist friends remember this while practicing. It is fun to meet a celebrity or someone important. But your license, good name, and the integrity of the profession are counting on you to protect your clients and make good judgements.
