True Crime

I was watching a true crime story and part way through the program changed the channel. The event occurred 20+ years ago and the victim and their family were rehashing what happened. This isn’t the first time they have been on television with their side of the event. They have told their story many times and to many media outlets. They also visited the scene and gave an update on what the perpetrator was currently doing. That person had served time in prison, was released, and not leading the best life. In my opinion, the more you talk about something, the longer it lives. And something only defines you if you let it. I’m not saying it is easy to move forward from a bad situation. I am also not insinuating it is something they should get over. They have their pain, but it doesn’t appear they are making any effort to get closure. But there are resources out there to assist those who can’t bring themselves to forgive or deal with their anger. I wish they would have done that than go on tv again with it. It is an ugly circle they are caught in. And it will continue as long as the want to keep being paid to talk about it. I’ve had people do me wrong, but I don’t let it stop me from living my life. I also don’t keep tabs on what they are doing. When I have been asked what they are up to, I can give an honest , “I don’t know” as a response. I also find it a shame how after all this time those involved are more focused on media attention and money than healing.
